First, my sweet baby turned two! (How does this happen so quickly?)
One of my boys' birthdays always falls on the weekend of the Nativity Exhibit and it seems like I am always doing something with that. This birthday was no exception. I had to be up and out of the house pretty early on his birthday and wouldn't be home until late so he opened his presents before I left for the day.

This boy is seriously obsessed with Elmo lately. It was a very Elmo birthday.

Cash is really excited by Sawyer's present too! Not exactly sure why, though. . .
How did they all get so big?! *tear*
Then we had a mini party for him when I came home for lunch.

Like all my kids (except Ryley) he was not excited about getting his hands dirty!
Then, two short days later, Ryley turned 10!

He got a Pokemon DS game that he's been asking for and the Pokemon bible.

Turning 10 means moving up to Webelos in Cub Scouting so he got all his Webelos gear for his birthday.

Our tradition is to take the kids out to eat wherever they want on their birthday. Ryley requested Chili's so he could get the same free dessert that Maddie got on her birthday.

He got the whole dessert all to himself and he was beyond happy about it!

The next week Cash had to go have an x-ray taken. This wasn't just a simple x-ray though. He had to be put under anesthesia so they could get a good look at his urinary tract. I won't go into all the details of why but he's completely fine and nothing abnormal showed up on the x-ray. We did find out that his bladder can stretch to the size of a large football (which is not necessarily normal but it's OK.) Josh and I were with him during the entire procedure and watching him go under the anesthesia was absolutely AWFUL. He was fighting and screaming that he couldn't breathe and probably feeling like, "Why are my parents just letting this happen?!!!" I hope we didn't scar him for life. We talked about it quite a bit afterwards and he doesn't remember much but he does remember being scared. Poor little guy!
Waking up from the anesthesia was totally uneventful (sadly - we kind of hoped he'd say all sorts of crazy things.) He just woke up and said, "I need to go to the bathroom." And he did, for about 10 minutes - a bladder the size of a football can hold a lot of radioactive dye!! He was really hungry from not being able to eat since midnight the night before and he woke up from the anesthesia around 1 pm. So that made him feel nauseous and combined with being sleepy and the after-effects of the anesthesia made for one unhappy little man. He never did puke though - thank goodness.
We took him to Subway for lunch afterwards too, so he was quite happy after that. Subway is his favorite place. Weirdo. He felt MUCH better after getting some food. We had to go back to the urologist for a follow-up about the x-ray right after we ate and the Dr. said all is well. Thank heavens!
The next day Josh and I went out of town for our 16th anniversary (holy crap - how did that happen?!) Yeah, this was a crazy week! We went down to Houston to see Brian Reagan. He is so hilarious. We had a lovely kid-free two days. Josh commissioned this as our anniversary gift:
Matt Grant (Ryley's old soccer coach) is an amazing artist and Josh had him paint this picture of us. We gave him a picture and he gave us this. It looks exactly like the picture. Love it!
We came home Sunday afternoon and had a little family birthday party at Granny and Pops' house to celebrate the boys' birthdays as well as Aunt Brianne's.
We started by opening presents. An Elmo theme emerged quickly. . .

Ryley got some Pokemon stuff and of course the traditional can of cranberry sauce!

It was a very busy couple of weeks but very fun.
Next up - Christmas!
